PORTFOLIO

Before you consider commissioning me for a piece, please have a look at my past works. These will give you an idea of what kind of style to expect from me. I will call out, this is my first foray into commissioned artwork so all of the art pieces pictured here were made without any money changing hands.

"Fairy" - November 2009

This artwork is one of the earliest digital pieces I've ever done that included a fully realized foreground subject and background. I was still refining my digital work back then and backgrounds have typically been my weakest subject, so I looked at a tutorial that guided me through the process of making a background that was in depth and believable. It was a lot more work than I was originally expecting but when I was finished with it I had an immense sense of pride.  Looking at it now, I'm still proud of how it turned out, even all these years later.

"Santa Penguin and the Reindeer" - December 2010

This piece was drawn on a whim right before the holiday season, so I was in a Christmassy mood. I often drew penguins in this visual style - very cartoony with very stubby features and a hint of feathers on the side of the head, a la the macaroni penguin. It's been a long time since making this but if I remember correctly, the entire image of a penguin representing Santa and riding a reindeer popped into my head all at once. The background came a little later. When we received a decent snowfall, I used the pictures taken to sample the color of shadows on snow and applied it to this drawing. Of all the parts, I was the most proud of the reindeer itself, especially the eye and the chest fur.

"Uraraka Ochaco" - April 2021

So, I love anime, have since I was in single digits. The Pokémon and Digimon franchises shaped a good part of my childhood, and when Escaflowne aired on American TV it sealed the deal for me. When Bleach was popular I often did art of the characters in various situations, but I hadn't done much art of anime characters after that point. I had a decent gap in anime knowledge, if you will, so it wasn't until My Hero Academia came out that I really started getting into some of the newer series. One night I got this image in my head of MHA's floating girl Uraraka in this particular pose, so I knew I had to draw it. Unlike some of the other pieces I've done about anime characters, I wanted this one to have the chibi look to it. For those of you not familiar with the word chibi, it means that characters often have simplified features or linework in order to make them look cute. Even though this is a simpler piece than other ones I've done, I'm still really happy with how it turned out.

"Mark and Em, Vampire Couple" - May 2021

This is one of the drawings I'm the most proud of, hands down. A couple years ago, right at the beginning of the coronavirus quarantines, I went through something absolutely devastating. In an attempt to heal I started watching a particular Twitch streamer, and one night he raided a friend of his. At the time, the friend was a much smaller streamer so his audience was more personable and he interacted with the chat so much more. I was instantly hooked and quickly became part of his community on Twitch and Discord. After a while I asked the streamer if he had a picture that he liked that I could draw for him, and he sent a picture of him and his girlfriend dressed up in vampire getup. It took a while to do because there was so much detail, and I just had to do a little supernatural embellishment, but I was (and still am) so happy with the work I did. I shared it in the Discord and got an overwhelmingly positive response from the community and the streamer and his girlfriend. I think back to that moment when I look at this picture, even now.

"Engagement" - October 2023

This piece commemorates the day that my sister and her fiancé got engaged. They were at the local beach and took a picture immediately after he proposed, which is the basis behind the piece. Her birthday is in October and since I couldn't see her (we're 300 miles apart) I decided to draw their engagement picture. When I was done I sent it to her and she and her fiancé absolutely loved it, so much that they changed their phone screens to it. (I'm still honored!)

I changed up my style slightly for this one. Normally I like to leave shadows and highlights with harsher line edges but I decided to blend them together. I changed my standard facial features slightly as well. I also added a couple embellishments, mainly the clouds and the initials in the sand, but everything else is pretty much one-to-one with the original picture. Overall I'm very happy and proud of this piece, and I'm so glad that they both loved it as much as I do!

(I'm sharing this artwork with her permission, since this was a gift for her and shows one of their collective life events.)

"Fake Pokémon, Luplast" - June 2024

I watch YouTube instead of TV so I often bounce around between different creators and video series. One of the creators I watch/listen to is Truegreen7, who does Pokémon-based art including creating fake Pokémon. Last year I decided to broaden my artistic horizons and try to create fake Pokémon myself. I asked family and friends to give me different phrase prompts so that I could use said prompts as inspiration for a new Fakémon.

This one came from prompt #3: "A pack animal who overcompensate because he wants to be liked." I had an idea for this right away. Pack animal, wolf. Pack, packing material, bubble wrap. Hence, wolf-shaped bubble wrap. They control air and can inflate or deflate as needed, but one wolf overinflates in order to gain attention. I created the deflated form first so the shapes were fully defined. In order to get the right proportions for the inflated wolf I used a Liquify tool to push the lines out. The squished wolves were fun to draw because of their different reactions to getting squished. I even made a "shiny" version with Chow inspired colors, hence the blackish tongues. I had pre-built a template to put the designs on, so once the designs were done I just needed to create the extra Pokémon lore/details. â€‹

I loved showing the pictures and the corresponding timelapse video to people. When they see the expanded bubble wolf they always break down laughing, and that makes me so happy!

"Stray Kids' HAN in 'LALALALA'" - February 2025

I have always been at least minimally interested in K-Pop but that interest has grown exponentially in the last decade. In October I fell down the Stray Kids rabbit hole to the point that I can talk about them for ages. Several months ago I decided to make art pieces for each of the members - 8 pieces in total. Each piece has 6 different poses to reflect different looks during their careers so far.

This piece is just 1 of the 6 poses for one of the group's main rappers, HAN. The pose here is custom, made by combining elements of a couple poses from the music video "LALALALA" (my favorite song of theirs, highly recommend). The leaning body pose is one that he did while wearing the outfit and clown mask and acting Joker-esque. The face he's making is one that he made while in another outfit. The outfit here is one of the ones HAN wears in the MV, and as mentioned before, the clown mask itself is also prevalent in the MV. â€‹

I have completed 5 of the 8 pieces so far and this single pose makes me very proud. I'm so pleased with how it turned out because it looks just like HAN. I was able to transform his features into my style and implement them the way I pictured it in my head. Hopefully when I finish them all and post them, the members like them!

"Truegreen7 Pokémon Starter Contest" - May 2025

Truegreen7's Youtube videos inspired me to start making fake Pokémon designs, so when I saw he was making a contest and asking for people to create starter evolutions based on his base forms I knew I had to try. These guys are what I came up with. I noticed geometric shapes in the base form so I took it and ran with it. That thought led me to the Falkirk Wheel, a uniquely shaped boat lifter in Scotland, so I used its design as inspiration for the jaw. The lore I came up with at the time, while interesting, unfortunately doesn't fit the idea of a starter in retrospect. I also now see that I need to simplify these designs more in order to better fit the Pokémon style. I plan to redesign these in the future but I'm happy with what I originally came up with too, even though they fit more as a legendary instead of a starter. It's ok, I'm still learning. :)

"Grandma and Grandpa" - June 2025

My last grandparent, my grandmother, passed away in April 2025. Since I no longer live in the state that she did, I was not able to attend the funeral. Instead, my dad and his siblings decided that the best thing to do was put together a celebration of life for her so that all of us could plan and attend that. We just held it yesterday, as of writing this, and it went off without a hitch.

There was a lot of work that went into the event. "The Sibs" and my mom worked to gather people together, write scripts, plan songs for us to sing, researched Grandma's life more in depth, etc. (And believe it or not, Grandma actually planned a lot of it before she passed - she was very analytical and planned out basically everything.) My cousin and I offered our help but they kept it within their generation, saying it was their responsibility; while disappointing, I understood why they kept us out of it. They put together a presentation of photos of Grandma to be displayed before and after the service, and I decided in the week before the service to draw a picture for the presentation to help contribute.

This picture is based on a professional photo of Grandma and Grandpa from the 90s I believe. This photo was in their bedroom in a gold colored frame so I took a picture of it with my phone, frame and all, and based the art on it. I even imitated the photographer's signature on the bottom.

I'm very happy with how this piece turned out. Getting the frame and Grandma's shirt flowers correct was a lot harder than I expected, but I'm proud of the result. It looked wonderful in the final presentation displayed at the service.

You spent nearly 94 years on this Earth, doing your best to take care of everyone. Now it's time for you to get your much needed rest. Love you always, Grandma. ♥

"Derpy Tiger Sprite" - August 2025

If you can't tell from the portrait of HAN above, I really enjoy K-Pop. Stray Kids is my favorite group but I've enjoyed the genre as a whole for years. As of writing this, the Netflix movie "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (KPDH) has been out for maybe 2 months. Another thing about me is that, the more mainstream/viral something becomes, the more likely I am to avoid interacting with it. For quite a while I wanted nothing to do with the movie, but then for her birthday my mom wanted to watch it with me so I obliged. I'm so glad I did! KPDH is amazing! And of course, as any good animal lover would, I fell in love with the animal companions Derpy the Tiger and Sussie the Raven.

I recently went into an ultra-focused mode of trying to make modifications for the game Stardew Valley, so of course I had to try to make Derpy come to life. You can ride a horse to ger around in Stardew, so I replaced the horse with Derpy so you can ride him instead! Stardew is pixelated so it took a good bit of trial and error to get the design to look right with as minimal detail as possible, especially his face, but I think he turned out really cute. I was even able to make his running animation generate the glowing energy by his feet that he does in the movie.

This here is just a sample of his tilesheet. If you want to see the final product, including animated examples, I posted the completed mod on Nexus here. Feel free to use it if you by chance play Stardew on PC!

As I make more pieces I plan to update this section. I had another piece in mind to include here but I currently can't find the project file amongst the main hard drives I use. I'm hoping I'll find it later on though, as it's a great example of scenery work.
